  • Following her hugely successful career with BBC television as an interviewer and comedian, Ruby Wax has now turned her attention to the study of psychotherapy and neuroscience, recently receiving her Master’s degree in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy from Oxford University.  She is the author of the best-selling book Sane New World. Described as a guide to saner living, Ruby explains how our minds can jeopardize our sanity, and that to break the cycle, we need to understand how our brains work, rewire our thinking and find calm in a frenetic world.  Her newest show of the same name, combines neuroscience, mindfulness and comedy, helping audiences to become the masters, not the slaves of their minds. Sane New World has toured both internationally and in London’s West End.

Ruby is a patron for the British Neuroscience Association and has brought mental health issues to the foreground in Parliament through work at the Home Office and speaking at Downing Street to raise money for neuroscience research. Amongst other charity work, Ruby became an ambassador for Mind and SANE, has held open sessions for sufferers and set up dedicated social networking communities for mental health. She performed her first show, Losing It, based on her experiences of clinical depression, in a number of institutions and charities, and has become a leading speaker on mental issues, including appearances at TEDGlobal 2012, various UK National Health Trusts, the Royal College of Nursing, British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Mindfulness in the Workplace, Women of the World Festival UK and Comic Relief.

After sell-out shows in London, Australia and Cape Town, Ruby is continuing her hard work creating awareness about mental health through her UK theater tour and appearances at a number of mental health conferences this year, including the National Mindfulness Conference. She will also be joining keynote speakers such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama at ‘Happiness and it’s Causes’ in Australia in June.

Ruby  has founded  Black Dog Tribe, a social networking  site providing information and social support for people suffering with  mental health issues.  She presented her TedTalk “What’s So Funny about Mental Illness?” at TedGlobal 2012. Ruby Wax was recently awareded an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, for her services to mental health.
